# surveys on impact

USE-IT organised 3 surveys within the last 10 years to evaluate its impact at the European level. It also helps teams to get fundings.

Here is a selection of key insights and conclusions from the 2023-2024 survey. During 14 months of collecting data (june 23 - sept 2024), we collected 685 answers, and among them analysed the answer from 485 respondents aged under 35 years old.

## Interesting data

* *Did you find out new information thanks to the USE-IT map?* — 98% answered YES!
* 75% of respondents associate USE-IT with *authenticity*, 67% with *fun*, 56% with *community* and 50% with *honest*.
* 38% found the maps in info centers, 38% at universities and in dormitories, 11% in centers for international students.
* *Why paper maps over digital? —* 61% answered *better overview of the city structure and context*, 47% answered *it’s an art piece*, 45% said *I keep it as a souvenir* and 43% answered *I like text to be printed (more comfortable for the eyes)*.

## Conclusions

### Do USE-IT maps have a promotional impact and positive economic effects for the local community?

***YES!***

* 23% stayed longer or are planning to stay longer in the city thanks to the USE-IT map, and 29% also visited other USE-IT cities.
* USE-IT maps can promote deeper local immersion: This directly addresses the promotional impact by showing that the maps encourage travelers to go beyond typical touristic zones. This leads to them spending more time and money in local, less crowded areas, benefiting those businesses.
* USE-IT can increase exploration: They inspire travelers to visit more cities within the USE-IT network, promoting those locations.
* USE-IT maps can boost support for local businesses: This is a clear economic effect, travellers are choosing local shops over big brands, directly supporting the local economy.&#x20;
* USE-IT maps can create a positive city connection: A positive feeling about a city is a very strong form of promotion. People who love a city will recommend it to others.

### Do USE-IT maps have a sustainability impact?

***YES!***

* 23% of travelers associated the maps with the words *sustainability* and 57% with *community*.
* USE-IT map can influence travellers’ choices: they view the map as a “friend” that encourages exploration beyond the city center, dispersing visitors and reducing overcrowding.&#x20;
* USE-IT maps can promote confident walking: promoting walking reduces reliance on motorized transports, contributing to environmental sustainability.
* USE-IT maps can improve local cultural understanding: it can foster respect for the community and environment.&#x20;
